Venetian ducats and sequins were commercially valued and thus a means of payment used throughout the then-known world, both for the quality of the gold they contained and for the commercial solidity of the Most Serene Republic.
As such, they were subject to counterfeiting to be "exchanged" on the market without the recipient's knowledge.
The counterfeits therefore "circulated" to avoid attracting attention and to be taken as genuine.
Today we offer a VERY RARE case of counterfeiting in mint condition, which has NEVER circulated!!!
